Mick Foley’s comments on Undertaker were not mentioned during his WWE Hall of Fame speech

Undertaker Hall of Fame’s introductory speech last month was met with plenty of praise from fans and wrestlers alike, but there was one omission that some fans noticed β€” Mick Foley didn’t mention. The Undertaker’s history with Foley, and in particular his human character, led to some of the most iconic moments of the 1990s in WWE, notably the infamous Hell in a Cell match in Lord of the Ring 1998. But while some fans were upset, Foley admitted in a new interview on the “In The Kliq” podcast this week that there was no frustration with his ending.

“Well, listen,” said Foley, “I forgot to mention my wife while I was speaking, so I’m not someone to lecture anyone about who they should include in their conversation” (h/t WrestlingNews.co). “I wasn’t around in those formative years. It was about friendship and support. We had a great rivalry, but he didn’t mention rock or Austin. So, if I don’t get hurt, no one gets hurt on my behalf.”

Undertaker announced his retirement during the 2020 documentary series, the last Riding, which centered on “The Deadman” who struggles with the concept of retiring and continuing the chase after the perfect final match. Foley spoke with ComicBook while the series was coming out and offered some thoughts on why retirement has been a struggle for many wrestlers.

β€œI think success is very personal in our work,” Foley said. β€œIt’s not like you can measure it based on your hitting average. In baseball, if a player can’t get around the fastball, their career is over. Whereas, in sports entertainment, you are often at your peak years after the physical peak ends. In that you understand more about the psychology of the fans, you connect more with the fans, and you find ways to have better matches even though your early physical years are over. I think there is a fine line between self-confidence and delusion. I think some of us, including myself, as we progress To get old on tiptoe above that line and we still think we have one last match left.”

The Undertaker is recruited alongside Vader (another competitor to the Foleys), Queen Charmel and the Steiner brothers. Shad Gaspard, who died tragically in 2020, received the Warrior Award.
